Classic Formality

THE GARDEN THEN:

the clients have lived in the house for a long time, and although they're keen gardeners and love plants, they couldn't get the garden to look how they wanted. The lay-out didn't work well and the plants weren't quite right, the garden had become a struggle to look after and wasn't an enjoyable space to use.

THE BRIEF:

was for two seating areas, one in the sunny part of the garden and another near the house. There should be interesting plants and flowers with as much seasonal interest as possible, water, some lawn and the garden should be able to accommodate the owners enthusiastic little dogs.

"a well designed garden not only looks great, but is also practical to use"

THE DESIGN:

the long garden was divided into three areas; there's a terrace near the house and a small pool with a gentle bubble fountain. It's a shady area, reflected in the choice of plants that have a cool green and white palette. Trellis partially screens the next area of the garden which has a lawn with a path, so you can always keep your feet dry – a well designed garden not only looks great, but is also practical to use. The path to the final part of the area is off-set so this part of the garden can't be seen immediately as it's approached.

It's a lovely little area concealed from it's surroundings with sun loving plants, a chunky timber pergola a raised brick water feature that has seating around its edge.

THE GARDEN NOW:

Dahlias and Geraniums

there's a journey through the garden, with places to sit and admire the plants and water features, but most importantly, the clients have a garden they can enjoy. The dogs can be kept in the area near the house if necessary ….. they love the pond.
